11th European Conference on African Studies

30 June – 3 July 2027 | Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal

As Europe’s largest and most international conference with an African focus, ECAS2027 – the 11th European Conference on African Studies – will be held as a face-to-face event from 30 June-3 July 2027 in Lisbon, Portugal.

We are happy to announce that the Call for Panels is open and will close on 27 September 2026. All panel proposals must be submitted via the online form.

The theme of ECAS 2027 is “African Prisms”. It aims to speak to the multiplicity of disciplines, perspectives, methods, histories, and images that shape the contemporary study of Africa. At its essence, a prism refracts light, revealing a spectrum where once appeared unity.

Please read the theme, then all the instructions on the Call for Panels page and submit your proposal. The Call for Papers will open end of October 2026 once the panels have been selected.
