#PostalDeSerralves: @daniel_and_clara partilhou diversas imagens da exposição CINDY SHERMAN: METAMORFOSES que pode visitar, no Museu de Serralves, até abril de 2023, juntamente com um comentário que aqui reproduzimos:
“We were lucky to catch this Cindy Sherman show at @fundacao_serralves while visiting Porto – a big retrospective featuring works from the 1970’s to more recent projects.
It was particularly interesting to see her early works, the film stills, Bus Riders, and Murder Mystery series, the work is in its most stark and direct form yet already fully formed, the fundamentals fully established for what became her lifelong exploration. There’s something enviable about artists like her who, early on, seem to find a subject and form which suits them and carry on exploring it and deepening it throughout their life. But while there is this remarkable consistency, there is also a surprising amount of variation, experimentation and expansion of techniques and atmospheres. We particularly like the works which use fake body parts and prosthetics, also when she uses more extreme make-up as in her Historical Paintings, and the strange, almost Svankmajer-esque giant heads of her Surrealist Images series. The show is preceded with a great quote by a Portuguese writer, Augustina Bessa-Luis: “People are continually subject to metamorphoses that we shall call fiction, but which are actually the very instrument of reality… Each individual contains their own double, and also many others who claim their identity from the depths of their being.”
