Self in Motion: Transformative Practice in South Asian Traditions

This interdisciplinary workshop brings together anthropologists, philosophers, and historians of religion to examine transformative practices across Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Islamic, and Buddhist traditions in South Asia.

Focusing on rituals, disciplines, and conceptions of selfhood in transition, the event invites reflection on how embodied practices and cosmological frameworks shape ideas of human flourishing, agency, and deep self-transformation.

Organised by Daniela Bevilacqua, James Madaio, and Lucian Wong, the workshop will lead to a forthcoming edited volume or special journal issue.
