Nota biográfica

Maria Amelia Viteri holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from American University in Washington D.C., with a concentration on Race, Gender and Social Justice.  She’s currently an Associate Professor of Anthropology at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), and an Associate Researcher at the Department of Anthropology, University of Maryland College Park, specializing in Globalization, Mobilities, Gender, and Sexuality, in their intersection with ethnicity, class, immigration status, and “race”.  As an engaged Anthropologist, she has published extensively, in English and Spanish, not only for academic audiences, but also the media, as well as to inform public policy, local governments, and international development efforts.  Her most recent research project addresses Chinese public discourses, their systems of meaning, as well as policies and agreements in the Global South – particularly in Latin America and Ecuador, critically illustrating the central role of gender and sexuality.
