The workshop introduces participants to digital humanities and computational literary studies through the case study of caring for literature. Following a brief overview of key computational techniques—from basic word counts to vector semantics and generative AI—participants will gain hands-on experience in applying these methods to develop different formal models of the phenomenon. Working with a large corpus of book reviews, they will then assess the efficacy of these models, exploring both their potential and their limitations. The workshop combines practical activities with theoretical and methodological discussion, while maintaining a critical perspective on the tools and approaches most commonly used in the digital humanities.
